William D DyerOriginally from the south shore of Boston, William D. Dyer grew up playing baseball, tennis, and golf and reading voraciously. After graduating from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces in 1970, he earned his M.A. and Ph.D. In Literature with specialties in Elizabethan and Jacobean Drama, the Pastoral Tradition, and Charles Dickens in 1979. Along the way, he worked a long list of jobs to support his studies, including road construction, door-to-door sewer connections, outside shipyard machinist, line worker at a Coke plant, short order cook, water department laborer, used car salesman, Cutco knife salesman, jackhammer operator, night watchman, landscaper, liquor runner at a bar, and night cleaner. But his love affair with teaching literature and training teachers began with three years at Indiana State University at Evansville, followed by a single year at the College of St. Benedict and thirty-three years at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
