Vinnette Mae GliddenVinnette Glidden is the developer of the Grassroots Phonics & Grammar method of teaching reading. She strongly believes that this method empowers a person to achieve his or her highest potential in reading, while at the same time building self-confidnce. This method was inspired by the children that she worked with in the Cayman Islands Government primary schools to whom she gave speech therapy. After obtaining a Master of Science degree in both Speech & Language Pathology and Audiology from the School of Communication at Florida State University, she worked for a while in California in the Los Angeles Unified School District. In 1981 she came to the Cayman Islands with her husband and two children.She developed activity books suitable for classroom and home schooling. She also created videos and other materials to teach clear articulation of the speech sounds associated with the letter-symbols. In 2012 she was awarded recognition as an Education Pioneer in the Cayman Islands. She is honored to have been a delegate, exhibitor and presenter of the Grassroots Phonics & Grammar method at the World Literacy Summit at Oxford in 2018 & 2025.
