Viliam KlimekVILIAM KLIMEK is Slovakia's most popular contemporary playwright. He graduated from Bratislava University's Faculty of Medicine and worked as an anesthesiologist at the Cardiovascular Surgery Hospital in Bratislava. Since co-founding the alternativetheatre GUnaGU in 1985, he has been its actor, director, and playwright. In the mid-1990s he gave up medical practice, devoting himself entirely to the theatre and writing. He has been awarded the prestigious Alfred Radok Prize for the best Czech and Slovak play of the year on five occasions. Although his name is mainly associated with the theatre, he is also a popular fiction writer. His most successful books include the novels Naa m as (Naa is Not in a Hurry, 2002), Nmestie kozmonautov (Astronaut Square, 2007) and especially Bratislava 68 : te brlant (Horce leto 68/The Hot Summer of 68, 2011).
