His research and patient care involve venous thromboebolism and pulmonary hypertension. He served as Chairman of the American Thoracic Society's Consensus Statement for the Diagnostic Approach to Acute Venous Thromboembolism and also participated in the American College of Chest Physicians' Consensus Statement on Antithrombotic Therapy for the past 7 years. He has been a principal investigator or steering committee member for a number of national studies on the diagnosis and treatment and deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
