Townsend, Jr., M.D. Distinguished Chair in General Surgery, Professor and Vice Chair for Administration, Chief of Surgical Oncology, and Medical Director of the UTMB Cancer Center, with an adjunct appointent at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. An internationally recognized leader in breast surgical oncology, Dr. Klimberg is known for pioneering innovations in breast cancer surgery, including the axillary reverse mapping (ARM) technique for lymphedema prevention, oncoplastic and minimally invasive breast surgery, and novel approaches to breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. She has served as president of the Association of Academic Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and the Southern Surgical Association, and currently serves in leadership roles with the American Board of Surgery, the American Board of Complex Surgical Oncology, and the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
