He earned a bachelors in history at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, from which he made frequent jaunts to Virginia Beach before and after class, as well as to the OuterBanks as often as possible. After graduation, he worked in book publishing for thirty years as an editor, marketing director and project manager for the Donning Company/Publishers, Antique Trader Books and Harris Connect.
