He has thirty-five years of experience in the land conservation and science-education fields in Vermont, including serving as executive director of the Upper Valley Land Trust and the Vermont Institute of Natural Science. He lives with his family in Taftsville, Vermont, near the banks of the celebrated Ottauquechee River.
