Syed Zahid HasnainSyed Zahid Hasnain joined the Indian Mercantile Marine Training Ship, Dufferin, at Bombay in 1935 as an engineer cadet. Later he joined the British India Steam Navigation Company and saw service in the Read Sea. In 1941 he joined the Royal Indian Nav as a Sub-Lieutenant and thereafter had an extraordinary career. In Pakistan, after serving at sea, he built and commanded PNS Karsaz first at Manora, and twice at its present site. He also served as the head of the Technical Services at Naval Headquarters and held the positions of Director General Ports and Shipping, and Managing Director of Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works, and as Chairman Karachi Port Trust. In 1965 he was promoted to Rear Admiral being the first Technical Officer to reach this high rank.
