Susan Flader

Susan L. Flader received her Ph.D. in history and humanities at Stanford University in 1971. She has taught at the Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is now Professor Emerita of History at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Flader’s research and teaching interests center upon the history of the American West and environmental history. She is the author of Thinking like a Mountain: Aldo Leopold and the Evolution of an Ecological Attitude Toward Deer, Wolves, and Forests and, with photographer Charles Steinhacker, of The Sand Country of Aldo Leopold.
