Susan L. Flader received her Ph.D. in history and humanities at Stanford University in 1971. She has taught at the Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is now Professor Emerita of History at the Universiy of Missouri-Columbia. Flader’s research and teaching interests center upon the history of the American West and environmental history. She is the author of Thinking like a Mountain: Aldo Leopold and the Evolution of an Ecological Attitude Toward Deer, Wolves, and Forests and, with photographer Charles Steinhacker, of The Sand Country of Aldo Leopold.
