Sultan CattoSultan Catto has been writing and giving poetry readings for several years. His poems are published in Yale Poets, and a variety of international literary journals and anthologies. He has published seven books of poetry, starting with Underthe Shadows of Your Falling Words (Buenos Aires, Argentina: Ediciones Godot, 2008) followed by six more, three of which were translated into Spanish (by Pilar Blanco and Madeline Millan) and Chinese (by Steve Zhang), and are currently being translated into several other languages. Many of his individual poems published in Ithaca have appeared in twenty-six languages. He has been running the monthly Yale Poets meetings for the past sixteen years at the Yale Club in New York. His poems have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. He was also a recipient (2019) of the Homer Medal, the European Medal of Poetry and Art, awarded to outstanding creators in the world of literature. He was the winner of the International Poetry Prize, Love of Nature. XXIst century (January 2020) and was given a Literary Medal at the French Senate in Paris at Palais du Luxembourgby the European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters (EASAL). Scientific metaphor in Sultan Catto's poetry is a window into his other passion. Catto has a MS, MPh, and PhD degrees from Yale University in Mathematical Physics and has made important contributions to the development of elementary particle physics particularly in the area of Dynamical Supersymmetry (a subject he invented in collaboration with distinguished Yale scientist, the late Feza Gursey). He is a professor of mathematical physics and has been the Executive Officer of the PhD program at the Graduate School and the University Center of City University of New York, as well as being a research scientist at the Henry Krumb School of Mines of Columbia University, and visiting professor at the Rockefeller University.
