Steven TurnerThe author of The Boy From Butchertown, Steven Turner, actually worked in San Francisco's Butchertown and at James Allen's and Sons's in the 1970's. It was at that time the largest meat packing establishment west of the Mississippi River. Steve did mny jobs at the plant including working on the "Kill Floor" and clean up crew. Both of his brothers Bob and Paul also worked there along with their father Bob. This was a summer job for them while they were attending college.Steven went to Willamette University in Salem Oregon from 1972-1976. During his time at Willamette University, he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and played four seasons of Varsity Football. AS a player, Steve earned All Conference honors three times. After college, Steve Began a teaching and coaching career in Oregon. He taught at the middle school level and as a high school teacher for 36 years and is still coaching football as of 2025. During his football coaching career, his teams won two State Championships and assisted on two more. He coached in over 500 varsity football games. Steve was married to Mary for over 35 years and they have two sons. Robert is an Officer in The United States Marine Corp and John is a property manager in Oregon. Read More Read Less
