Dr. Thompson has taught at Johns Hopkins Universit, Dartmouth College, Clemson University, Georgia Southern University, Towson University, and University of Maryland Global Campus. He was Editor of Androids, Cyborgs, and Robots in Contemporary Culture and Society, published by IGI-Global in 2018, and Global Issues and Ethical Considerations in Human Enhancement Technologies, published by IGI Global in 2014.
