Steven DavisI was the oldest of three children, with a sister just under two years younger and a brother eight years my junior. In 1949, I lived in Smethwick in the West Midlands until I was 4 years old. I don't remember much about it, except we lived next to th WBAFC stadium and the away coaches parked outside our house. We moved to Kidderminster when I reached four and a half years old, to a big farmhouse called Heath House, a great playground for us kids. My father's brother and his family also lived there; they had four children, but Ron, the youngest, was a month younger than me, and we were lifelong friends. Our final move was to Stourport-on-Severn in Worcestershire when I was seven years young. I went to the Stourport Infants School, Junior School & the Secondary Modern School, where I played both rugby and football. Then, in 1965, I left home to join the Royal Navy, serving on HMSs Thames, Ark Royal, Hermes, Eagle, Blake, Falmouth, Illustrious, and finally the last Ark Royal (two different ships).I left the Navy in 1989, joining the Ministry of Defence Guard Service until 2018, serving at HMS Collingwood in Fareham, a naval training establishment and RN ammunition supply depot in Gosport. I'm now retired, living in Gosport in my own house alone, as I'm a widow, with my only son passing in 2020. Read More Read Less
