People were on horseback and in horse-drawn wagons, dressed in frontier garb. I pinched myself and found out it was their Centennial. I found a room to rent. Mount Oread took me up to the campus, where I met with Anatomy Department Chairman Dr. Paul Roofe and got my orientation, and began my graduate career. My first two years were as a medical school teaching assistant with Dr. Irwin Baird (a student of Harvard's A. S. Roamer) studying the central nervous tracts of pit vipers (rattlesnakes and copperheads). Fine, I'll get a master's and find a job as a science teacher/football&track coach.
