Sir Michael McWilliamSir Michael McWilliam's childhood was spent on a tea estate in Kenya. At Oxford he did research on the East African tea industry before a banking career with Standard Chartered and then as Director of SOAS. He was a member of the board of the Commonwalth Development Corporation (whose history he wrote), and chairman for many years of the Royal African Society and of the Royal Commonwealth Society.
