That early fascination turned into a passion for writing when she took Mrs. Tureau's creative writing class in 7th grade-and she's been writing ever since.She is the prou mother of two sons, Jaylen and Ty. From a young age, Jaylen shared her love of reading, often finishing books in just a day or two. But as he read more, Shannon noticed a troubling pattern: very few of those books featured African American protagonists-or any Black characters at all.
