Samuel W PondSamuel W. Pond (1808-91) was born in New Preston, Connecticut, and served as a Presbyterian missionary to the Dakota Indians in Minnesota for twenty years. Gary Clayton Anderson, a professor of history at the University of Oklahoma, is he author of Little Crow, Spokesman for the Sioux and Kinsmen of Another Kind: Dakota-White Relations in the Upper Mississippi Valley, 1650-1862 and coeditor of Through Dakota Eyes: Narrative Accounts of the Minnesota Indian War of 1862.
