Samuel Vanderlip Leech (1837-1916) was a Methodist Episcopal Minister for 52 years. He was a Republican who consistently voted for Republican Presidents. Leech witnessed the events of John Brown's raid at Harper's Ferry and aimed to provide a trutful account of the raid in his book.
