Sailas BenjaminSailas Benjamin , a renowned industrial and environmental biotechnologist, has served University of Calicut as the Director of Research. Being a leader of several research projects, Prof. Benjamin has published several research papers in internationa and national journals of high repute, and several industrially-significant novel strains of bacteria/fungi were discovered and characterized; apart from 5 patents and 1 book to his credit. He is one of the pioneering researchers pertaining to the bioremediation of hazardous phthalates. Having completed his M.Sc. Degree (University of Kerala), he secured his M.Phil Degree (Cytogenetics) from the same University. In 1998, he secured his Ph.D. Degree (Biotechnology, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala; CUSAT) under the supervision of the world renowned biotechnologist, Prof. Ashok PANDEY at National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram. In between, Prof. Benjamin also secured Post-graduate Diploma in Public Relations and Journalism (PGDPRJ), from the Public Relations Society of India.
