Harrison is the founder and managing director of the International Yacht Marine Certification Society (iymcs) in the Netherlands and the author and course designer of DeckCrew sail(TM). He began sailing as a boy and grew up building sailing cruisers in the family business. After joining the naval cadets, he became a cadet instructor at 15 and later trained as a deck officer in the Merchant Navy.After several years at sea, Roger worked in marine-equipment R&D and technical sales, and later as head buyer for a major UK chandlery chain. He gained two college national diplomas in Business & Accounting and Marketing. His sailing experience ranges from dinghies to large superyachts and includes offshore and ocean cruising and racing as navigator and skipper. He has taught recreational yachting to yachtmaster level and has also captained large motor yachts up to 30 metres.Since 2003, Roger has worked extensively in maritime education and training, establishing and managing professional schools and advising schools and colleges worldwide. He has trained more than 1,500 students at professional level in Master 200 Limited power and sail, Unlimited Ocean astro-navigation for OOWs, maritime business and law, radar and pilotage navigation, and GMDSS radio.
