Robert N WatsonRobert N. Watson is Distinguished Professor of English at UCLA, and a lifelong passionate teacher and lover of poetry of many kinds and many centuries. His poems have been published in the New Yorker, Prairie Schooner, Oxford Poetry, and many other jurnals; also in his chapbook The Museum of Craven Life. He has been a professor at Harvard, as well as Smith and Middlebury colleges; also a Fellow at Cambridge and Oxford universities. His books have studied Shakespeare; Ben Jonson; the fear of death in Early Modern culture; the roots of modern environmentalism in Renaissance literature and painting; Japanese cinema; and the pathology of cultural evolution. A book for general audiences, Shakespeare's Tragedies: What Makes Them Great is forthcoming from Stanford University Press. His extracurricular loves include dogs and playing pickup soccer.
