Robert J. Alpern

Dr. Robert J. Alpern has performed research in the area of epithelial physiology, focusing on the mechanisms and regulation of acid transport. He received his MD degree from the University of Chicago and then trained in internal medicine atColumbia Presbyterian. Following postdoctoral training in the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the University of California, San Francisco, Alpern joined the faculty at UCSF, then moved to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School as Chief of Nephrology and later Dean of the Medical School. He then moved to Yale as the Dean of Yale School of Medicine and is now Ensign Professor of Medicine and Cellular and Molecular Physiology at Yale.
