Robert F SchmidtRobert F. Schmidt is the oldest of 4 sons, born to a middle class family in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a graduate of Lakewood High School, Lakewood, Ohio where he grew up, and a graduate of Yale University, Class of 1943, which he attended on a 4 year ful scholarship.

While serving in the Army in World War II, he was sent to the U. of Minnesota for a year to study the Japanese language in the ASTP program, which was followed by a year at the U. of Michigan continuing his study of the Japanese language in the Military Intelligence Service Language School where he met his wife-to-be the last week he was on campus. They married in 1945, had three daughters, and were married for 69 years until her death in 2014. Since her death he has lived alone in North Ridgeville, Ohio.
