Rob PittmanRob Pittman's writing journey started at the age of 12 when he won a Department of Education prize for writing a play in sixth class at his inner west Sydney school. Excelling in history and English from a young age, the written word has always been friend to him. Eight years ago, a week before Christmas, Rob's three-year-old granddaughter looked up at him and her little face said, "Please, Grandpa, I'd love a unicorn bracelet for Christmas." Because grandpas can be shattered by little faces and his search for a unicorn bracelet was fruitless, Rob created a small poem instead, which he turned into a one-off, handbound book to give to his young granddaughter as a Christmas present. Encouraged by several friends to continue to develop, lengthen and publish this little poem for fun - and his grandchildren - he has transformed this child-inspired poem into an illustrated children's story book. After talking with Jessica Mudditt from Hembury Books, that little poem and its hero Fergie are now available as a published book, Santa and Fergie's Great Big Adventure.Throughout his life, Rob has written constantly, publishing poetry and stories through numerous online platforms and regularly taking part in writing contests created by his colleagues. Rob finds a competitive drive within himself when he writes. With another as yet unpublished children's book up his sleeve, Rob is also in the process of writing a book about his younger life that includes historical facts about where he grew up, as well as some of his poetry and beautiful black and white photos.Rob lives in the Blue Mountains with his wife, Lee. The support she has received from the McGrath Foundation during her cancer journey has been deeply appreciated by the couple, which is why they are donating the proceeds of the book to the charity.
