Rita GallippiRita Gallippi has dedicated over thirty years to working with children, first as an educator in childcare centres and later as a teacher in several Ontario schools. With more than two decades of experience as an elementary school administrator and Cetrally Assigned Principal, she now co-leads the largest Principal/Vice Principal association in Canada, supporting over one thousand administrators in the Toronto District School Board. Rita completed her Master of Education in Urban Indigenous Studies and has a deep appreciation and passion for ensuring Truth and Reconciliation is achieved through education.Rita is a proud mother, stepmother, and grandmother. As some of her grandchildren identify as Mi'kmaw, and they continue to explore their identity, writing this story has been deeply personal and special. She hopes that her work will be proudly shared for many generations in her family and that children exploring their own identities will be inspired by this story.This book is one in a series of educational picture books that Rita plans to publish with the hope of supporting young readers to appreciate not only beautiful Newfoundland but also to learn about the true stewards and First Peoples of this land.
