Richard Gilman

Richard GilmanRichard Gilman was born in Vancouver, B.C. in 1922. During World War II he spent six years in the Royal Air Force. While he insists his service, compared with so many others, was quite unspectacular, he did manage to crash four times including a mid-ir collision while returning from an operation off the coast of Nazi-held France.
After the War, Richard obtained an M.A. at Oxford and began a fascinating 40 year career in education (on four continents). He has been an enthusiastic community volunteer, travelling widely, leading student tour groups, delivering cargo for refugees in South East Asia, surveying school sites for development in tropical Africa, teaching in Central Europe and the Republic of China, promoting the cause of disarmament and world peace - and, for fun, skydiving on his 80th birthday - this time with a parachute!
Before he retired, he was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal for Service to Canadian Education.
Richard and Kay - a talented artist - had four children, each qualified in a different profession. Richard is a proud Grandfather to eleven grandchildren and a growing clan of 'greats'. In 1992, he married Retha, a mother of five and a gifted administrator.
Richard now lives in Qualicum Beach on picturesque Vancouver Island....
