Immediately after graduating from high school she was employed with the local newspaper, The Chattanooga News-Free Press, where she learned to design and produce print advertising and served as Art Dirctor until 1989. In 1996 she moved to a small town near the Cumberland Plateau where she started the small business "Happy Bottom Graphics and Office Services" specializing in design for print media.
