Philip LambPhilip W J Lamb first came to writing late in life after inheriting his father’s World War II memorabilia after his death in 1988, from his service in the RAF during 1940 to 1944 as an armourer/gunner fitter where he saw service in North Africa 1940-943 and then Italy 1943 -1944 with RAF 73 Squadron [Hurricanes]. His father after being injured in Italy-Foggia Main, from shrapnel wounds to his legs was ordered to Home Embark ASAP arriving in Wales RAF St Athan in April/May 1944. Using the memorabilia, his father’s Service Record and extensive research work his book ‘World War II North Africa & Italy 1940 – 1945’-‘One Man’s Story’ a biography was published in October 2022 by AuthorHouseUK and follows his father’s journey through the World War II. How the squadrons Ground Crew were transported to North Africa, being present on HMS Manchester at the Sea Battle against the Italian Fleet at Cape Spartivento - November 30th, 1940; how the pilots and their aeroplanes were transported to Egypt. It tells of the battles fought, his evacuation from Tobruk in 1941 then onto the battles at El Alamein. His journey continues after the defeat of the AXIS Force at El Alamein across North Africa through Libya and onto Tunisia and the battles that ensued there, ending with the capture of some 250,000 Axis Troops.
