Peter BrabhamPeter Brabham was born in the Rhondda Valley, South Wales in the 1960s and as a child he regularly visited Barry Island, where his father would take him around Woodham Brothers' locomotive scrapyard. In the docks, exploring over 200 rusting steam ocomotives. Subsequently as a teenager keen on photography he regularly revisited the scrapyard taking photographs. For two decades until eventual closure in 1990, the scrapyard steam locomotives were purchased for restoration at sites around the UK. After graduating from Cardiff and Durham Universities, he continued his interest in the restoration of the Barry locomotives. Now a Senior Lecturer in geophysics at Cardiff University he uses Barry Docks as an urban land re-generation case study with his students. This book is his photographic journey through the story of Barry Docks, Woodham Brother's scrapyard and the restoration of the steam locomotives, now much loved by tourists visiting the UK's Heritage Railways.
