He writes features for national and local newspapers and history magazines. He appears regularly on ‘tal radio Europe’, BBC local radio, on the BBC World Service and Radio 4’s PM programme. He has been history advisor for a number of current York tourist attractions and is the author of 200 or so books including the best-selling Factory Girls: Women and Children at Work and Women at Work in World War I and World War II. His next book is Bridgerton Revisited due in 2026.
