Patrick McCaugheyPatrick McCaughey was born in Northern Ireland in 1943. After taking his degree in Fine Arts and English at the University of Melbourne, he was Art Critic for The Age from 1966-69 and 1971-74. From 1969-71 he was Harkness Fellow at the Museum of Moden Art and on his return to Australia was appointed University Fellow in Fine Arts, at the University of Melbourne 1972-73. From 1974-81 he was Professor of Visual Arts at Monash University, and from 1986-87, Visiting Professor of Australian Studies at Harvard University. From 1981-87 he was Director of the National Gallery of Victoria. In the late 1980s, he moved to the US where he took up positions as the director of galleries. He now lives and works in the US.
