Lemer is a licensed professional counselor, holding a Master of Education in counseling and learning disabilities from Boston College and a master's degree in business from Johns Hopkins University. She practiced as an educational diagnosician for over forty years. She was a cofounder and served as executive director of the international nonprofit organization Developmental Delay Resources.
