She loves Dragons and has collected over 40 of them, many from the Far East while serving in the Navy as a meteorologist and anti-submarine warfare specialist. The Dragons Children pentalogy developed from a fairy tale Natli told her grandchildren one Christmas Eve. The main character in each novel is based on one of those grandchildren.
