Nancy A FredricksonNancy grew up in the small town of New Market, Minnesota, and Gordon was raised on a small dairy farm north of New Market. They met after Gordon returned from three years of military service in the United States Army. Gordon graduated from the Univerity of Minnesota with a teaching degree and taught high school English and directed plays, while Nancy's experience with office work led her to engineering and accounting positions for various companies. During Gordon's first teaching assignment in western Minnesota, they purchased and farmed 160 acres, where they raised cattle, hogs, wheat, barley, oats, alfalfa, a dog named Rex, and many cats, including Goofy Tom. The experience motivated them to write books about people and animals on farms with the goal to entertain and enlighten readers of all ages.
