Mrinali AlvarezMrinali Álvarez Astacio is a Puerto Rican illustrator and author. She has worked for various publishing houses, such as McGraw-Hill, Edelvives, SM, and the University of Puerto Rico Press. In 2016, she was selected as one of three shortlisted winnersin the Beginning, Middle, and End competition by the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators - British Isles. She was also awarded a "Highly Commended Artwork" award in the Macmillan Prize for Children's Book Illustration. Her illustrations were shown at the International Competition of Illustration and Social Graphics in Venice in 2016. The Carnegie Mellon Foundation and Fundación Flamboyán granted her the Letras Boricuas scholarship in 2021. In 2022, the School Library Journal (USA) recommended her book Piecitos de Bebé as "an excellent and one-of-a-kind addition to Spanish board book collections".
