Mike ThominMike Thomin is a historian and storyteller who has spent nearly two decades bringing the past to life for audiences of all ages. He works for the Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN) as the Director of Education and Interpretation and is a Faculy Senior Research Associate at the University of West Florida. Through his work, Mike helps people discover Florida's buried history-from sunken shipwrecks in the Gulf to ancient Indigenous villages beneath our feet.Mike's love of storytelling led him to create "Archaeology Storytime," a program designed to spark curiosity in young minds by blending archaeology and imaginative tales. His debut children's chapter book, Luna the Cat, grew out of that very idea-making history fun, relatable, and exciting for young readers. In addition to writing for kids, Mike is an experienced museum professional, public historian, and published scholar. His research and creative work have appeared in a variety of academic journals and books, including The Journal of the American Revolution, Interdisciplinary Journal of Maritime Studies, The Museum Review, Journal of Archaeology and Education, Pensacola History Illustrated, the ACUA Underwater Archaeology Proceedings, and Deadman's Chest: Even More Archaeology of Piracy (University of Florida Press). He's also contributed to documentaries on the Travel Channel and Discovery Channel. When he's not writing or working on heritage projects across the Southeast, Mike enjoys scuba diving, filmmaking, and exploring the maritime history that inspires so much of his work.
