(Mick) Malone OAM was born in Binnaway, NSW, in 1947 and lived an idyllic life on the banks of the Castlereagh River until he went away to boarding school at the prestigious St. Stanislaus' College in Bathurst.In 1966, he joined the Austraian Army and was selected to join the Special Air Service Regiment the following year, serving with 3 Sqn in Vietnam in 1969-70. Mick served in the Australian Army for 27 years and was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his service in 1989.After retirement, Mick founded Imprimatur Military Books with his wife, Jo, and has written a number of highly acclaimed military history books: *SAS: A Pictorial History of the Australian Special Air Service, 1957-1997* (1997), *SIMMO: A Biography of Ray Simpson, VC, DCM, One of Australia's Greatest Soldiers* (2016), and his best-selling memoir of adulthood, *Two Ranks On The Road: 35 Years of Australian Special Forces Service* (2024).He is currently completing *Crazy Brave: The Story of Peter Badcoe, VC*.
