As a curator he helped develop one of the largest integrated marine history collections in Canada. In his early career he was a professional sailor, in sail. H served as President of the Ontario Museums Association, as the Canadian representative on the Council of the International Congress of Maritime Museums and is currently on the Council of the Canadian Nautical Research Society.
