Martin MaxwellBorn Max Meisels in March 1924 in Vienna, Martin Maxwell was left an orphan after the deaths of his mother and father. He escaped Austria after its annexation by the Third Reich, fleeing with his older brother Leo to Britain. There, he joined the Briish Army and in June 1944 participated in a major D-Day glider operation in Normandy. Captured by German troops, he was held in a German prisoner-of-war camp. After the Allied victory in 1945, he travelled to Washington, D.C., to investigate Axis war crimes.
