His novel set in wartime Pari, The Designer, won the Romantic Novelists Association Prize for Historical Romance. Under the pseudonym Madeleine Ker, he wrote more than 30 romance novels in the 1980s. Gabriel is a former Shakespearean scholar who left his academic pursuits to become a full-time writer, but is also an artist and a musician.
