Marian Webb BettsMarian Webb Betts was born in Sudan, Africa, to British pioneer missionaries and spent her first thirteen years in what could only be called the back of beyond. With no radio, television, or easy contact with the outside world, her earliest entertainent came through her father's remarkable gift for storytelling - tales of his own adventures, as well as imagined stories inspired by the wildlife and many tribes among whom they lived.Her father, an English professor, and her mother, a published poet, taught their children proper Queen's English while daily life immersed them in French and Arabic. Growing up speaking, reading, and writing in three languages shaped Marian's lifelong love of words, history, and storytelling.An artist as well as an author, Marian designs book jackets and illustrations for her own work, always returning, in one way or another, to the art of storytelling.
