Mala Kumara Kumar is a freelance writer, editor and author of over 40 books for children. A former editor with Pratham Books, a not-for-profit multilingual publisher, she has conducted many storytelling sessions and workshops on recreational mathematics inschools. Her books include Up the Mountains of India, Crazy Mazy’s Maths Puzzles, Miss Laya’s Fantastic Motorbike, Paper Play, the Happy Maths series, the Rupaiya Paisa series and a biography of Sir M. Visvesvaraya. She writes about education, culture, environment, lifestyle, people, gardening and the social sector for various publications.
