L Meredith AverittBorn and raised in the Washington, D.C. area, Meredith moved with her mother to Knoxville, Tennessee, during her senior year of high school. Already involved with horses, she became a confirmed country girl. She went on to college and veterinary schol at the University of Tennessee, graduating in 1981.
