Kate BroughtonKate Broughton, BA (Hons), M.Ed., is a Montessori educator, artist, researcher, and lifelong learner with over forty years of experience across public, private, and teacher-training settings in the United Kingdom and the United States. She holds a Bahelor of Arts (Honors) in Three-Dimensional Fine Art, a master's degree in Montessori Integrative Learning from TIES/Endicott College, American Montessori Society (AMS) Elementary I and II and Administrator credentials, and a Licentiateship with the Society of Designer Craftsmen (UK 1981-86). Kate co-founded Kingwood Montessori School in Texas in partnership with Bonnie and Jim Zimmer of the Zimmer Foundation and Janet Ebach, serving in senior leadership and governance roles while helping shape a research-informed learning environment rooted in Montessori principles and dedicated to nurturing the whole child. She has contributed extensively to Montessori teacher education as a faculty member at both the Gulf Coast Montessori Teacher Education Center and the Montessori Education Center of the Rockies. She also served as an examiner for Edexcel (Pearson Education) in the United Kingdom, expanding her expertise in curriculum standards, assessment, and educational innovation. Kate was selected as a member of the inaugural American Montessori Society Innovation Fellowship Think Tank (IFTT); a multi-year research initiative focused on innovation in Montessori education. Her project, Mapping Montessori Materials for AI Competency Development, shows how Montessori materials naturally cultivate AI-relevant skills aligned with global frameworks including UNESCO, McKinsey, and the World Economic Forum. The work was recognized as a Finalist in the American Book Fest Best Book Awards in the Education/Teaching category and has been presented at major Montessori research forums. Beyond her research in Montessori, Kate advises educational leaders and institutions on leadership, ethics, and human-centered approaches to emerging technologies, including work with universities and professional education programs in the United States. An accomplished fine artist, she works across painting, sculpture, photography, digital modeling, and emerging AI tools. She is the author of several books (some still to be published), including Mapping Montessori Materials for AI Competency Development, Montessori, and AI, After Alpha, and Create Montessori, which explore Montessori education, creativity, and the future of childhood.
