Jonathan Shaughnessy

Jonathan Shaughnessy is Director, Curatorial Initiatives and Interim Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Canada where his exhibitions include Deanna Bowen: The Black Canadians (After Cooke); Vision Exchange: Perpectives from India to Canada; and a series of three Canadian Biennials, among others. He is Coordinating Curator for the Canada Pavilion at the 2026 Venice Biennale featuring Abbas Akhavan and was Project Director for the 2022 and 2024 Canada Pavilion exhibitions featuring Stan Douglas and Kapwani Kiwanga, respectively. Since 2022 he has been Chair of the Sobey Art Award Jury.

Jonathan Shaughnessy est directeur des initiatives curatoriales et conservateur principal par intérim de l’art contemporain au Musée des beaux-arts du Canada, où il a notamment organisé les expositions Les Canadiens noirs (après Cooke), de Deanna Bowen ; Perspectives croisées : de l’Inde au Canada ; ainsi qu’une série de trois biennales canadiennes. Il est conservateur coordonnateur du pavillon du Canada à la Biennale de Venise 2026, qui présentera le travail d’Abbas Akhavan, et a été directeur de projet pour les expositions du pavillon du Canada en 2022 et 2024, qui mettaient respectivement à l’honneur Stan Douglas et Kapwani Kiwanga. Depuis 2022, il préside le jury du Prix Sobey pour les arts.
