John W. Newcomer John W. Newcomer, MD, is Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology and Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He is also the Medical Director for the Center for Clinical Studies at Washington University. Dr. Newcomer is a Princial Investigator on research grants funded through the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and also serves as the Chairman of the Drug Utilization Review (Medicaid) Board for the State of Missouri. Dr. Newcomer has received a number of honors and awards, including a 1999 Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), an Independent Scientist Award from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and a 2002 Gerald L. Klerman Award for Outstanding Clinical Research from the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD). Funded continuously by the NIH for 14 years, Dr. Newcomer also serves as a reviewer for the NIH as well as other funding agencies, including the Department of Veteran’s Affairs and the National Science Foundation. Dr. Newcomer serves on the editorial board for Neuropsychopharmacology, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry and the Journal of Psychotic Disorders, and he is a reviewer for numerous journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Physiology, American Journal of Psychiatry, Archives of General Psychiatry, and the Journal of Neuroscience.
