John Mateer
John Mateer is a poet, writer and curator. Beginning in the 1990s, he has published nine books of poems in Australia. Books and chapbooks of his work have also appeared in the original English in the UK and South Africa, and in translationonly or as parallel texts in Portugal, Sweden, Austria, Japan, Macau and Sumatra. Among his collections are The West: Australian Poems 1989-2009 and Emptiness: Asian Poems 1998-2012, and Joo: (sonnets), and also the recent selection of twenty-one years of 'international' work, That Nostalgia. His 2015 collection, Unbelievers, or 'The Moor', was published in Australia and the UK, then, in translation, in Vienna and Coimbra, Portugal. Individual poems have been translated into European and Asian languages, as well as into Farsi, Armenian and the Portuguese of Brazil. In 2003 he was a recipient of a Centenary Medal for his contribution to Australian literature. At present, he lives in Perth/Boorloo.
