Before joining the world of academia, Spearman had been a sales and marketing executive for twenty-five years. In 2006, h walked away from an executive position with a Fortune 500 company to return to school. He earned his MA in Latin in a calendar year and began teaching thereafter. He enjoys life at a boarding school, with coaching sub-varsity-level football his favorite assignment. He decided to write for publication when his wife suggested he find a hobby.
