John David PowellJohn D. Powell, Ph.D. is a retired counseling psychologist. After earning his doctorate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin, John worked as a psychotherapist and supervisor at the Counseling Center of the University of Illinis at Urbana-Champaign. In that role he provided individual and group psychotherapy, supervised the clinical work of doctoral students, presented hundreds of psycho-educational workshops and seminars, served in several administrative roles, chaired the Trauma Response Team, and co-taught the Counseling Center Paraprofessional Training classes. Prior to his psychology experience, he earned a masters degree in religious education and worked several years in church ministry. He and his wife, Judy, an elementary school teacher for 35 years, have been married 47 years, and they currently reside in Abilene, Texas where John writes and works as a handyman.
