He has been significantly involved in social justice and Christian education in Congregational churches, and in community engagement through Australian Frontier, the Chrch and Life Movement, Christian Action for Peace and the ecumenical movement. He has worked in staff training and development, was president of the Doncaster/Templestowe branch of the Movement Against Uranium Mining, and President of the South Gippsland Conservation Society.
